The Ask

For their first ever comedy rollout since launch, HBO Max invited us to create a series of cohesive end card animations that could be used throughout various promos for their new summer stand-up comedy specials. These end cards were to compliment a slew of different shows and the varying styles of each individual comedian.

The Challenge

While the initial ask was to create something that was consistent and could be used across every special, our discussions with client soon revealed that it would make more sense for each comedian to have their own unique end card. As a result, we needed to dig down deep for the essence of each show and discover how we could draw that out in the animation. Comedians don’t generally like to be boxed in — and what we really mean by that is, “Nobody puts Baby in the corner.”

 

The Result

Drawing out the unique charm and character of each comedy special, we created end card animations that aligned with and expanded on the shows’ larger marketing campaigns. Rather than having an interchangeable look and feel, we customized each piece in Adobe Photoshop to be directly reflective of the shows’ personalities, bringing them to life as if they were their own stand alone brands. After giving them life in After Effects, the resulting animations encapsulate these unique personalities, while also remaining relevant to the HBO Max brand overall.
